AREG launches 2023 photography competition to capture energy in action

Aberdeen Renewable Energy Group (AREG) has launched its 2023 calendar photography competition to celebrate Scotland’s contribution to the energy transition.

After a successful competition last year, budding amateur photographers of all ages are invited to submit photographs that capture the energy in action.

Images can show wind turbines, hydrogen, electric vehicles and bicycles, photovoltaic solar panels and how renewable energy is integrated into communities, households and public buildings. Entries can also demonstrate the impact of climate change on Scotland’s landscape and wildlife. The winning entry will be featured on the cover of the calendar and will receive £200, with the 12 finalists receiving £50 each and their photo featured in the calendar.

AREG President Jean Morrison said: “We hope to get a wide selection of entries from across the community, including the under 16s. Details of the competition will be circulated to schools to encourage students to participate. Renewable energy solutions such as wind, solar and hydrogen are key to achieving a net zero future. The AREG calendar will reflect the changing energy mix in Scotland and the environmental challenges and solutions that impact the planet.

The competition is sponsored for the second year by the offshore wind consortium ScotWind Falck Renewables, BlueFloat Energy and Ørsted.

Richard Dibley, of consortium partner Falck Renewables, said: “Last year’s competition inspired some stunning entries that perfectly captured what the energy transition looks like in the real world. We are thrilled to be sponsoring the calendar again and look forward to seeing this year’s participants rise to the challenge.

The chosen photographs will be presented at the AREG Energy Futures Conference and Exhibition at P&J Live on November 15, 2022 where the winner will receive their prize.
