EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: Zusha Goldin and her love for photography

We always love being able to choose the brains of other creative people, and recently we got to talk to Zusha Goldin, who is an amazing photographer. He recently found himself shooting high profile celebrities with Deadline Contenders, adding to an already iconic portfolio. When we heard about Zusha, we couldn’t help but fall in love with her work. Check out some of the shots he took:

We got the chance to talk to Zusha about photography, what he’s been up to, what else he’s fallen in love with, and what the future holds! Check out our interview with him below.

Hello Zusha and welcome to The Honey POP! How was your summer?
Thank you for! My summer has been amazing so far, I visited my family in New York for a few weeks, and now I’m back in Los Angeles to take amazing photos!

You said that every day is a different routine for you in terms of work. Do you sometimes lack consistency?
I love this question! If I’m completely transparent… I don’t think I’ve ever had a consistent routine. I ran by my schedule when I was a kid and in school. Repetition and I don’t have the best relationship.

Are there works by other photographers that you absolutely love?
YES! Luke Fontana, Anthony Avellano, Nechama Leitner and Annie Lebovitz.

In another interview you said that growing up you would always play the director and sometimes the actor. Are there times when you think about pursuing directing?
In a sense, in every shoot I do, there is an element of direction. Whether it’s the pose, the lighting, the backgrounds, the colors, the styling, the make-up or the composition…there is an element in which a photographer directs the shoot. That being said, I have no immediate plans to direct any films, commercials or music videos. But life is funny, and you never know where you’ll end up next…

Besides photography, what have you been falling in love with lately?
I find myself reading many books on marketing, consumer psychology, and how our brains work, oh, and self-improvement books. I like to read and I like to grow as a person. So definitely a lot of learning and unlearning different thought processes.

Has there ever been a photo you wish you had taken?
Any portrait of Marilyn Monroe, honestly.

You have a long catalog of people you’ve photographed, especially lately. Who has been your favorite person to photograph so far?
I love this question, but it’s so hard to answer. Almost everyone I’ve photographed and worked with has had the greatest pleasure being there and having fun on set. I’m afraid I can’t dive into the specifics of who and where, but I love working with the people I’m lucky enough to work with.

What is the process for you when preparing for a shoot?
It all starts with asking myself, and about me, what is the story we are trying to tell. I usually have a discovery process which is a phone call to discuss the type of shot we’re trying to do, what we’re trying to convey in the footage, etc., and we have a few calls to discuss the style and all the fun. Things. On the day of filming, my brain goes like this:

Batteries charged? Check. SD card inserted? Check. Material packed? Check. We are ready to go!

What is your favorite camera?
My Sony A7III!

What can we expect from you for the rest of 2022?
So many fun projects! I’ll often shoot a campaign, and it won’t go live until a few months later, so I can’t comment on that, but really fun things happen!
