Jasmine Washington Joins UNO Athletics as Director of Creative Services and Photography

NEW ORLEANS – The University of New Orleans (UNO) Athletics has hired Jasmine Washington as Director of Creative Services and Photography, as announced by Tim Duncanvice president of sports and recreation.

Washington will support UNO Athletics programs and external departments to promote and enhance the #NOLAsTeam brand, through digitally produced creative content through social media, ESPN+ and other creative outlets.

“I am extremely happy to add Jasmine to #NOLAsTeam,” Duncan said.
“She represents the next step in our efforts to become world-class storytellers through her top-notch experience in the digital and creative space. Additionally, she will become the voice of Privateer Athletics via our multiple departmental social media pages and With the addition of Jasmine and Randi to the current team of Merritt Chip and Emmanuel Pepis, our communication and creative team is among the best in the world!”

Washington double majored at the University of Maryland, College Park (UMD), earning a Bachelor of Arts and Humanities, Communications – Public Relations and a Bachelor of Behavioral and Social Sciences, Criminology/Criminal Justice. With more than four years of experience in media production, social media and creative services, Washington’s first introduction to communications was as a media relations intern at UMD’s athletic department. Washington transitioned to the Southern Conference (SoCon) as a media relations assistant in 2021 and quickly rose to the position of director of creative services.

“I am beyond grateful to have the opportunity to work at the UN. I would like to thank Tim Duncan for believing in me to take on this role. I know moving to New Orleans will develop my professional and personal skills,” Jasmine said.
“I’m excited to work with the staff, find creative ways to tell the stories of our student-athletes and highlight that student-athletes are more than their sport.”

As director, Washington was responsible for the conference’s social media accounts, graphics, championship venue signage, and overall brand enhancement. The overall following of the league’s three social media accounts grew by more than 3,000 under Washington. Overall engagement increased by 38% over a six-month period. She also developed a plan for the social media room for the basketball and football media days and the overall digital presence of the SoCon.

Washington competed in the first and second rounds of the 2022 NCAA Men’s Division I Basketball Championship hosted by SoCon and Furman University in Greenville, South Carolina. There, she created a TikTok that held over 600,000 views and 80,000 likes.

Washington was a member of the SoCon’s first-ever Racial Equity and Justice Task Force, which includes coaches, student-athletes, administrators and faculty from across the league. She served as the Marketing Chair for the Task Force and led all marketing efforts.

As a UMD student, Washington was a member of the Alpha Lambda Delta and Communication Honor Societies and a recipient of the 2019 Barack Obama Presidential Award.

A native of Woodbridge, Virginia, Washington, Washington has also written about UMD football players, contributed to social media accounts for other UMD programs, helped with the 2019 Big Ten Women’s Basketball Tournament held in Indianapolis, Indiana, and the NCAA championship first and second rounds hosted by UMD.
