the Sony World Photography Awards (previously) garnered 340,000 entries for its 2022 competition, with subjects ranging from the magical landscapes of Turkey to an intimate portrait of Burmese siblings. Around 170,000 of these original submissions fall under the National Awards category of the competition, which recently announced the best images. The winning collection offers a varied and arresting look at the state of contemporary photography and a broader consideration of culture, documenting both incidental and composite views from 62 countries around the world. Some photos of the competition will be visible from April 13 to May 2 on Somerset House in London, and you can see the whole collection on the contest website.
